The Autumn Slow Down

Author: Callum Roberts Friday, 25 October 2013

After a busy summer of lettings, in the last few weeks the market has suddenly slowed down, if not drawn to a sharp halt. We are finding that lettings stock and empty properties are slowly building up. Eager landlords are therefore dropping their weekly rental prices to encourage a let.

At the moment we are experiencing only a small reduction in weekly rents, but I can imagine that in the coming months before and after Christmas prices will fall sharply. This is good news for tenants as they can certainly bag a lettings bargain!

With the Sales market however conditions couldn't be more different. There is a severe shortfall of sales stock encouraging a frenzied market. The reasons? - Overseas investors with cash competing against UK based clients who can borrow at extremely low interest rates.
